The ketogenic diet was especially created to help you lose those extra pounds quickly; it is based on a diet that is high in proteins and fats. The foods have been carefully chosen and consumed at specific times to promote maximum burning fat cells, allowing you to lose weight quickly.
It is recommended to follow the ketogenic diet only for a short period of time (less than one month), because it is quite restrictive. Plus, as with the majority of diets, you should consult with your medical physician before beginning any type of diet.
You can see a list of foods that are prohibited and permitted on this diet below:
Example of ketogenic diet:
First Phase (1 to 10 days)
It is prohibited:
- Any type of flours and starches
- Any type of pastas
- Any products that contain flours or starches
- Dairy products
- Sugar or products that contain any type of sugar
- Any types of sauces
You are permitted to eat:
- Cold cuts
- Skimmed yogurts
- All green leafy vegetables
- Tomato (1/2 a day)
- Diet beverages
- Coffee or tea
Second Phase (day 11 to 20)
You can add all the permitted items from the first stage to this list including the following:
- 1/2 a liter of skimmed milk
- Raw and cooked vegetables
- Fruits: 2 oranges or 2 peaches or 1 apple or 6 plums or 1 cup of strawberries
Third Phase (day 21 to 30)
Add the permitted foods from first and second phases, plus the items listed below:
- Whole grain pastas or low-fat noodles
- 1 low-fat dessert, a day
Half way through the third of this phase, you can have a free day to eat whatever you please.
There is no doubt that this is a very effective diet and within a few days you will notice results, but it shouldn’t be abused because it is quite restrictive. If you follow this diet more than the specified time, you will begin to notice vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
